A Celebration of Life: Message from the Family

May 20, 2020

Dear Family and Friends,

We grieve the loss of a dear friend, auntie, sister, grandmother, mother and wife. Nida Asumbrado Roquiz was all things to us. The gaping hole in our hearts will never be replaced. We will never be the same.

Though painful her passing, we ask the question, how would Nida Roquiz want us to remember her? We are convinced Nida would not want us to give her a funeral. Black dresses and long faces do not capture what she was about. Rather, she would want a Celebration of Life. Laughter, food, parties, faith, family, generosity, and music are a few elements encapsulating the life of Nida. The essence of Nida’s life was indeed the essence of life.

We would love nothing less than to pull out all the stops for Nida’s Celebration of Life. Unfortunately, we live during the age of COVID-19 and are rightly required to curb our gatherings.

The Celebration of Life for Nida Roquiz will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 12:00 PM at the Avon Park SDA Church. Attendance will be limited due to current church policy. Due to this limitation, we invite family and friends to join our livestream event.

Viewing services will be held on Friday, May 29 at 4:00 – 8:00 PM and Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 2:00 – 6:00 PM at the Filipino-American International SDA Church in Avon Park, Florida. These services will be limited to allowing no more than 10 persons at a time. As a result, we will be doing a sign up (May 29, May 30) for time slots. This will allow us to maximize both your time and safety. We wish more could attend the viewing. Unfortunately, we will have to curb the number of people able to see her.

For those who would like to participate in the funeral procession, please meet at the Avon Park SDA church parking lot following the conclusion of the Celebration of Life around 2:30 PM on May 31, 2020. A police escort will lead the procession from the church to the burial site. We ask those attending to adhere to social distancing and wear masks.

We understand the need to honor Nida’s memory. Here are some suggestions.

1. Send condolences to our home address. Please email asumbrado.a@gmail.com to receive this.

2. Make a donation to Voice of Prophecy. The Voice of Prophecy serves to “equip the world for Christ to come.” Nida served on the board of this organization to the end of her life and was passionate about its mission.
